ChromeOS has long been top-of-mind in the budget laptop category and the occasional deal here and there would mean you could get an extremely cheap, but halfway-decent one for under $100. Well, it’s 2023, and our standards are going up – as they should – but prices are, too. So, we’ve picked these devices spanning the space under the slightly arbitrary ceiling of $400.

Acer’s Chromebook 317 (review via Android Police) lets you stretch out with a 17.3-inch 1080p display. It’s got one of the better Intel Celeron chips you can get and comes with 128GB of storage built-in. Prices have been falling since the beginning of the month.
The HP Chromebook Laptop 15at-nb000 features Intel’s latest entry-level N200 processor (which means you’ll get the longest software update window with this pick) and it kicks butt when paired with 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
